Greetings... from Hell.

I had heard of underground coal mine fires before but have never seen one up close or in video. Here's a post from some people who went through Centralia, Pennsylvania last year and took a lot of pictures. The entire town was completely evacuated and has been a ghost town since 1962. Spooky!

A field near where I grew up was a potato field(muck farm). Burning some seed bags at the edge of the field caught the muck on fire, and it smoldered for over 6 months. It burnt underground and couldn't see it but just smell it. Farmer was checking his crop and noticed the ground seemed warm, and took one step and fell waist deep into embers of fire. He survived but had severe 3rd degree burns from waist down. It too, ran in channels and over into another field before burning out. Muck has high oil content I guess. It's sure black enough.
