Midlife Crisis

After being married for 25 years, I took a look at my wife one day and said, "Honey, 25 years ago, we had a cheap apartment, a cheap car, slept on a sofa bed and watched a 10-inch black-and-white TV, but I got to sleep every night with a hot 25-year-old blonde.

"Now we have a nice house, nice car, big bed and plasma screen TV, but I'm sleeping with a 50-year-old woman. It seems to me that you're not holding up your side of things."

My wife is a very reasonable woman. She told me to go out and find myself a hot 25-year-old blonde and she would make sure that I would once again be living in a cheap apartment, driving a cheap car, sleeping on a sofa bed.

Aren't older women great? They really know how to solve your midlife crisis!

Need a New Couch?

In my search for a new couch, I ran across these comfortable cushions from France.

A Truly Beautiful Mind

Holy Cow! Remember Dustin Hoffman's role in Rain Man? His phenomenal mathematical mind led his shady brother (played by Tom Cruise) to take him to the casino to win at the tables. In real life, we're only beginning to understand autism and its different manifestations. I just found these two videos on Stephen Wiltshire from Britain. The first one is a flight over Rome and the second is from Tokyo. In each, he gets one helicopter flight over the city, committing the skyline and cityscape into his brain. After the flight, he draws the scene from memory to a huge panoramic drawing pad and the results are nothing short of incredible. You gotta see this one!

Non-Newtonian Fluid Video from Spain

A friend of mine sent me a link to this video made with a live audience and the two hosts demonstrating the strange properties of a Non-Newtonian Fluid in a small pond. If you can stomp across the surface quickly and deliberately, you can literally float across the surface. But dawdle and stand still and you'll slowly sink in. A good example is cornstarch and water; the mixture is quite liquid but can settle into a solid-like state easily if you've ever tried to stick a spoon into the mixture when it solidifies under pressure. You can read more about Non-Newtonian Fluids on Wikipedia HERE. As shown on YouTube.

Photography with a Sense of Humor

Most of you who know me understand my slightly twisted sense of humor. I love irony and sight gags slay me the most. So when I came across Michael Hughes' Flickr slideshow entitled Souvenirs, I had to flip through his entire portfolio of shots. (I think he's building up a collection for a book.) Hughes takes souvenir items back to the actual site and superimposes the miniature over the real thing to create some interesting shots. They're incredibly well done and the collection in its entirety makes for a nice body of work. Can't wait to see the book!

A Classic: Mr. Bean's Christmas

Well, it's Thanksgiving Day today. And I've been saving this one up to post for a couple of weeks now. It's a clip from one of my favorite Mr. Bean episodes: the Christmas turkey. He still makes me laugh. I love this guy! Happy Thanksgiving!

Snowmen Hunters

Winter's almost here. Episode 1 of Snowmen Hunters as posted on YouTube. (Sorry, ladies -- it's a guy thing!)

Commercial of the Week from Norelco

Even though this is an interactive online commercial, it's a snort! Philips Norelco is promoting their new BodyGroom razor, specifically designed for total body hair "grooming." The entire site is really well done and the flash work is exceptional, backed up with a hilarious script. You really have to check out all the titles and submenus. Makes you want to go right out and buy one! Go to the site HERE.

Another Reason Why I Love CraigsList

It's fun checking out some of the Best of CraigsList postings occasionally. You never know what people will post and some of it is simply hilarious. Take this gem from L.A. CraigsList ranting on Pringles potato chips. You have to read the whole thing to appreciate it. And if it eventually gets removed, I've also hosted a PDF of that post HERE so you can still read it.

Our Troops in Iraq Send a Message to John Kerry

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

- John Kerry 2006

* And just so John Kerry knows these guys are for real, they're the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 34th Infantry Division, Minnesota National Guard, Sir!

Always ready, always there!
