The Cowboy Boots

(Anyone who has ever dressed a child will love this one!)

Did you hear about the Texas teacher who was helping one of her kindergarten students put on his cowboy boots?

He asked for help and she could see why. Even with her pulling and him pushing, the little boots still didn't want to go on. By the time they got the second boot on, she had worked up a sweat.

She almost cried when the little boy said, "Teacher, they're on the wrong feet."

She looked, and sure enough, they were. It wasn't any easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on. She managed to keep her cool as together they worked to get the boots back on, this time on the right feet.

He then announced, "These aren't my boots."

She bit her tongue rather than get right in his face and scream, "Why didn't you say so?" like she wanted to. Once again, she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off his little feet.

No sooner had they gotten the boots off when he said, "They're my brother's boots. My Mom made me wear 'em."

Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But she managed to muster up what grace and courage she had left to wrestle the boots back on his feet again.

Helping him into his coat, she asked, "Now, where are your mittens?"

He said, "I stuffed 'em in the toes of my boots."

She will be eligible for parole in three years.

Hey what's up with this? I have two friends named Laura, both expecting babies in February. This one's for them!

Dumbass of the Week

The video speaks for itself.

Let Virgin America Fly

Sir Richard Branson owns the global Virgin brand. From music to publishing to airlines, he brings quality products at common man prices. His most recent attempt to bring his value business model to America is Virgin America, a luxury-filled plane at regular prices. But the FAA won't give him a license to operate in the domestic markets. So to get their message across to the US air traveler, they've produced their own viral video clip to show you what you're missing. If watching the video pisses you off, you can then follow up and go to and send a message telling the regulators to let 'em fly! (Besides, I love the name!)

Ha -- English Translations from Chinese Subtitles

This guy bought a Chinese bootleg DVD of Star Wars III Revenge of the Sith. It looks like whoever made these copies took it upon themselves to re-translate the Chinese subtitles back into a very poor English interpretation. I mean VER-RY poor. I love it! Check out all the sample screens here.

What Does Color Blindness Look Like?

I was surprised when I first learned that color blindness doesn't actually mean you can't see certain colors. Color blind people might see the colors very differently or very similarly depending on their condition. Vischeck is a website that has some interesting information as well as clear examples on the variations of color blindness. They also have a special page that applies an algorithm to images to help people with color blindness to "see" the colors they're missing.

All of this reminds me of the first time I'd encountered someone with color blindness. I was in my early 20's and had gone into business with a friend of mine. One part of our shop was devoted to t-shirts with customized artwork and slogans that could be ironed on to order. Greg was the tall, funny kid who lived across the street from my house and we'd hired him to be our delivery driver. But after days of pestering us to work the front counter, we finally relented and let him work up front one morning when he didn't have any deliveries. About five minutes later, Greg comes running back to my desk in the back, whispering, "Hey Robert -- Could you help me out up front with a customer?"

As we headed up to the counter, I asked him, "What's the problem? This guy giving you a hard time, Greg?" To which he muttered back, "I'm colorblind. I can't tell which t-shirts are red!" After helping him take care of the customer, I think we all ended up spending an hour or two asking him all sorts of questions about his condition; when did he first find out, what's it like, what does he see... Being artists, my partner and I were completely fascinated. Oh -- and we ended up tagging the shelves of t-shirts so that the colors were marked on labels so Greg could help out at the front counter.

In the end, do we really know who actually sees normally and who sees differently?

When It Comes Time to Say Hasta la Vista, Baby!

One of the editors at PC World took it upon himself to join a whole bunch of different online services and groups just to see what it would take to cancel them later. Sadly, most of the results aren't all too surprising. The worst offenders were the ones which made it next-to-impossible for the average user to find out how to cancel their service or subscription.

I'm personally surprised to see that EarthLink (my ISP for many years) is only listed as SOME Hassle rather than BIG Hassle but I guess some of the others might be even worse (if you can imagine that!). One of the main reasons I'm still with EarthLink is that they owe me so much money right now that the only way to get it all back is to continue with their service at a ridiculously low monthly fee so they can pay me back over time (they claim they can't refund more than 60 days to any account -- what's up with THAT?!!!).

Anyway, link to the article is HERE. Check out the complete list.

OK -- for all you New Year's Resolution freaks hell-bent on losing weight this year (again!), this visual page from WiseGeek shows 200 calories of just about everything you might eat. Some of it is really surprising! It takes just half of a Jack in the Box cheeseburger to make 200 calories.
