Telling Your Gender from How You Write

Wow! A couple of researchers from the Bar-Ilan University of Israel and Illinois Institute of Technology collaborated on the development of an algorithm that can figure out your gender by reading a sample of your writing style. Here's the LINK to a site where you can paste a sample of your writing to see how well it actually works. (P.S. -- My sample worked.)

Just How Bad WAS Last Week's Storm?

A really great example of Flash coding on this site, ROXIK. Drag-and-drop to your heart's content. I'm sure this is how some people actually felt!

A Gift for The Person of the Year

So... now that you've made TIME Magazine's Person of the Year, what do you get yourself as a pat-on-the-back? How about some art? In fact, how about your DNA or your fingerprint enlarged and colorized for your living room wall? dna11 will print and mount a customized one-of-a-kind piece of art from... YOU!

Never Underestimate the Value of a College Education

Three aspiring psychiatrists from various colleges were attending their first class on emotional extremes.

"Just to establish some parameters," said the professor to the student from the University of North Carolina, "What is the opposite of joy?"

"Sadness." said the student.

"And the opposite of depression?" he asked of the young lady from the University of South Carolina.

"And you sir," he said to the young man from Clemson University, "how about the opposite of woe?"

The Clemson Tiger replied, "Sir, I believe that would be giddy-up."

Seinfeld Oz Mashup

If any of you have followed Seinfeld over the years and perhaps caught a few episodes of the prison show Oz, you'll probably get a chuckle out of this SNL mashup of the two shows (as shown on YouTube).

People Who Can't See Faces

I remember seeing a short feature during a TV news show on this interesting condition: the inability of a very rare segment of our population to distinguish faces. Face Blindness. I can't imagine not being able to recognize or remember anyone's face. Not even your own in some cases. Studies were scarce since mental health professionals seldom ran across sufficient numbers to conduct a study. But among the many paradigm shifts that happened when the Internet came along, people with this condition finally found a forum to communicate with each other and the rest of the world. So much more has been learned about what the experience is like from reading all the recent posts and blogs about Face Blindness. A good place to start is Bill Choisser's Face Blindness (Prosopagnosia) Pages HERE.

Commercial of the Week: Nissan Independent Suspension

Nissan in Germany wanted to find a way to show how independent suspension actually works. So they found a nice visual way to get men's attention. Of course, they won't be showing this any time soon in North America... (as shown on YouTube.)
